Montreal Toundra Take Control Early and Silence the Jackals
Montreal Toundra built a commanding lead with a dominant first quarter and relentless perimeter shooting, heading into halftime up 57–48 after weathering a second-quarter surge from the Lake Erie Jackals.
The game opened with early energy from the Lake Erie Jackals as Zachery Hudson attacked the rim for the first points of the night. But that momentum was short-lived.
Montreal Toundra quickly imposed their rhythm, turning defensive stops into fast-break opportunities. A three-pointer from Dimencio Vaughn at the 10:16 mark gave Montreal their first real statement, and moments later Alex Lieba electrified the floor with a dunk to stretch the lead.
From that point, Montreal’s defensive intensity dictated the tempo. Forced turnovers and quick outlet passes fueled a decisive run. Tafari Beckford and Jeremy Hayes attacked inside, while Vaughn controlled the glass on both ends.
Lake Erie struggled to convert from distance early, missing multiple three-point attempts. Despite flashes from Ryan Ladjevich and a late three from Joshua Dominguez, the Jackals closed the first quarter trailing 27–17.
The second quarter brought renewed fight from Lake Erie. Dominguez caught fire from beyond the arc, drilling consecutive threes that cut the deficit to four. Temple and Miller added key baskets, and midway through the period the Jackals tied the game at 37–37.
That momentum forced Montreal to respond—and respond they did. Lansana Nwosu hammered home a dunk, and Kyle Steward answered with back-to-back baskets to steady the ship.
The closing minutes before halftime belonged to Montreal’s shooters. Brandon Beloti knocked down a clutch three, and Steward added another from deep after a steal. Meanwhile, Hayes converted from the free-throw line with composure.
Lake Erie’s late free throws from Temple trimmed the gap slightly, but Montreal entered the break firmly in control at 57–48.
The tone had been set: Montreal’s defensive pressure and balanced scoring had created separation, while Lake Erie’s inconsistency from long range proved costly in the opening half.
