The Game

Montreal Toundra Ignite in the Second Quarter to Silence Windsor

After a tight opening quarter, Montreal exploded in the second and stretched the gap to double digits, taking firm control against Windsor Express.

The night began at a frantic pace as Windsor Express struck first through Khalil Gracey, but Montreal Toundra answered immediately, with Kyle Steward and Gabriel Wiznitzer setting the tone.

The first quarter was a chess match played at sprint speed. Wiznitzer’s early three-pointer and Tafari Beckford’s perimeter shooting kept Montreal slightly ahead, but Windsor refused to blink. Latin Davis and Sam Muldrow fueled the Express offense, while Gracey’s late triple pushed Windsor briefly in front.

Still, Montreal closed the quarter with composure. Brandon Beloti’s layup in the final minute sealed a 31–29 edge after twelve minutes of constant momentum swings.

The second quarter changed everything.

After Windsor briefly reclaimed the lead at 32–31, Montreal detonated a decisive run. Buggs drilled back-to-back three-pointers, Beckford added another from deep, and Dimencio Vaughn converted inside and at the line.

In a matter of minutes, the score ballooned from a one-point deficit to a commanding advantage. Montreal stretched the margin to 52–39 with five minutes remaining in the half, capitalizing on steals, offensive rebounds, and transition buckets.

Windsor struggled to convert from long range, while Montreal’s ball movement—highlighted by multiple assists from Daniel and Beckford—created clean looks and high-percentage finishes.

By halftime, the Toundra had built a 59–48 lead, a swing driven by a dominant second-quarter surge.

The third quarter opened with Montreal maintaining the pressure. Layups from Beckford, Nwosu, and Ifejeh extended the cushion to 65–48, and the defensive intensity suffocated Windsor’s rhythm.

The biggest gap of the game came when Montreal pushed the score to 76–57 and later 80–66, a margin that felt structurally decisive given Windsor’s shooting struggles and Montreal’s depth rotation.

From a tightly contested start to a controlled separation, this was a textbook example of how a second-quarter run can reshape an entire contest.
