The Carabins opened their 2025 RSEQ season with an emphatic 41–14 win over Concordia, combining offensive firepower and defensive pressure.
At the CEPSUM in Montreal, before 3,555 fans, the Carabins made a powerful statement by defeating the Concordia Stingers 41–14 in the season opener. After conceding an early safety that gave Concordia a 2–0 lead, Montreal quickly took control with a three-yard touchdown run by Mathieu Barsalou.
Quarterback José A. Gonzalez then displayed his accuracy, delivering a 51-yard touchdown strike to Brandon Gourgon and later connecting with Simon Riopel for another major. By halftime, the Carabins had built a comfortable 22–4 lead.
Montreal’s offense proved versatile: Gonzalez threw for 135 yards and three touchdowns while also adding a dazzling 56-yard run. Barsalou scored twice on the ground, and Lucas Dembele contributed 53 rushing yards. Receiver Hassane Dosso led the aerial attack with 69 yards.
Concordia, led by quarterback Xavier Tremblay, responded through the air, posting 326 passing yards. Tremblay’s highlight came with an 87-yard touchdown pass to Oriola Poirier in the fourth quarter, but the Stingers struggled to run the ball, finishing with only 37 yards on the ground.
Defensively, Montreal was relentless, recording three sacks and an interception by L-Ph. Gauthier. Kicker Philippe Boyer was perfect with five extra points, added a 19-yard field goal, and a rouge.
Although Concordia held the ball longer (31 minutes of possession), they failed to score in the red zone. Montreal, in contrast, was flawless with five scores in five trips. The Carabins’ 41–14 triumph showcased their depth, balance, and intent to dominate the RSEQ season.
